Whether because of their looks, similar names, or simply because they come from the same field, people tend to mix up celebrities every now and then. Maybe in the case of Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry the confusion is pardonable, as they look very much alike. But what about Mozart and John Lennon; how could one possibly confuse these two greats? Although they were both musicians, the styles approached by them were totally different. Not to mention that they lived almost two centuries apart. So, what could these two seemingly opposite celebrities have in common?

Well, IGEPA Group, together with Bruketa&Žinić&Grey agency conducted a design experiment to find out if the two famous musicians, along with other pairs of renowned characters around the world, share similar traits.

The creative study wants to “Mix It Up” and, just like real researchers who use different tools to make observations and carry out experiments, the Zagreb-based artists used one of IGEPA’s main goods, paper, and combined it with a balanced dose of creativity. In the end, they have come up with their result via a series of inspiring visuals.

The project was launched to promote the company’s products and shows that, with the right combination, one can reach the unimaginable. For this, the brand gathered a plethora of Croatian illustrators and asked them to support the “anything is possible” statement with their boundless imagination.

Some of most important local illustrators of today combined the images of seemingly incompatible famous characters and, using different drawing techniques and IGEPA paper, they outlined their concepts and brought them to life through a series of exquisite pieces of art.

In their hands, the paper project transformed into a unique art collection that elegantly combines the traits of past and present celebrities. The one-of-a-kind combinations of portraits are showcased via an online portfolio hosted by IGEBA’s website.

Each piece of artwork is 50×70 cm in size and mixes different kinds of paper and techniques. Within the drawings, the artists married Frida Kahlo’s image with the rawness of Mike Tyson, Mozart goes hand-in-hand with John Lennon, Caesar completes Pamela Anderson’s portrait, Dracula bites Cleopatra, Queen Elizabeth II officially meets Abraham Lincoln, Tesla salutes Oprah, The Statue of Liberty merges with John Wayne, Coco Chanel stands next to Pablo Escobar, Steve Jobs wears a Madonna-like mask, and finally, the mysterious Mona Lisa embraces Rock ’n’ roll star, Elvis Presley. Just scroll down to see the surprising results!

  • FRIDA K.O. (Mike Tyson + Frida Kahlo)
  • CAESANDERSON (Caesar + Pamela Anderson)
  • DRACLEA (Dracula + Cleopatra)
  • QUEENCOLN (Queen Elizabeth II + Abraham Lincoln)
  • TESLAH SHOW (Nikola Tesla + Oprah Winfrey)
  • WAYNE OF LIBERTY (Statue of Liberty + John Wayne)
  • COCA CHANEL (Coco Chanel + Pablo Escobar)
  • iDONNA (Steve Jobs + Madonna)
  • ELISA M. PRESLEY (Mona Lisa + Elvis Presley)

Speaking of the concept, that allowed this project to bloom so nicely, Nebojsa Cvetkovic, Art Director at Bruketa&Zinic&Grey said: “The idea came about from the intention to inspire designers to experiment and combine papers and techniques.”

Mirna Despot, Igepa Plana Director, applauds Cvetkovic’s claim and supports the statement by adding that “every idea is born from a creative mind and sooner or later it has to be put on paper. Each sort of paper has its own story, its special tactile dimension and is one of the basic means of communication. We want to broaden the limits of design and print and to inspire creative individuals in creating new ideas.”

IGEPA also became one of the sponsors of PLAN D, an international design education platform stemming from DANA D – International Design Festival. This year the festival took place from September 27 to October 1, 2017, and was held in the space of an abandoned discovery behind the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum in Zagreb.

To celebrate the occasion, the company decided to embellish the event’s hall’s walls with its exceptional illustrations, thus marking its presence at the festival in a very elegant style.
