Just in time for World Cleanup Day, Futura DDB and Ecologists Without Borders were lucky enough to find “gold” in nature. They took it and then used it to create something extraordinary. Something that honors this special day and helps the environment get a breath of fresh air. Curious about what they did? On September 15, the two partnered with a group of volunteers and helped Slovenia get rid of the trash that lay (and unfortunately still lies in some parts of it) on the streets and fields of this beautiful country.

With all that garbage at their hands, the “Clean Team” decided to do something original. They transformed all the trash they found into an act of art. World, meet “the cleanest font in the world,” entirely made out of litter left behind in nature in Slovenia. The typeface can be used to remind everyone that rubbish can be recycled and reused, even in the form of calligraphy.

The project felt its first heartbeat two weeks ago when the cleaning crew recycled old cans, batteries, bottles, tires, helmets, jackets, furniture, etc. and spread them around in such manner so as to copy the letters of Slovenian alphabet. Then, a group of specialists vectorized the letters so anyone can digitally use them in an environmental-friendly message.

According to the Ljubljana-based agency, the font will be published online and free to use by any NGO or individuals who want to help nature and raise awareness about the issues it is currently facing. It can be used in colors—just like it was photographed—or in black and white. The cleanest typeface in the world, made of real garbage, represents an intriguing way to make people appreciate the environment more.

The World Cleanup day is all about connecting people all over the world to join forces and help the environment get rid of the trash that continues to pile up and suffocate it. Unlike other participating countries, Slovenia decided to go a step further and impress its citizens—and the whole world also—with a product that doesn’t belong in the greens of nature.

“We want to encourage people to learn and understand the importance of the right behavior towards nature and proper waste management. That’s why we were extremely happy that we were able to create something memorable from trash together with hundreds of volunteers collecting it. Now we can finally write and send a clear message to the world as there are more appropriate places for trash than nature,” stated Urša Zgojznik, the Ecologists Without Borders’s president, in a press release.

Now, you can either wait and download the typeface, or you can go out, collect some trash, and create your own font. Which one will you choose? Let us know by sharing your thoughts in the comment section below!
