The New-Jersey-based company Pantone started off as a printing company in the 1950s and a decade later launched a revolutionary colour reproduction system that different companies, manufacturers and designers could refer to; and they still do. The Pantone Matching System (PMS) played an important role in making sure that people from different locations would use matching colours without the need of being in direct contact – thus iconic colours such as Tiffany’s Blue, Coca Cola’s red and more recently Minions Yellow were created.

Yet, we are living in a world of constant change and now more than ever, with the accelerating change in technology and the rise of digital tools that support the bloom of millennial creativity, Pantone decided to support the estimated 3.7 million of digital designers with a new way of bringing colourful ideas into life. So, with the help of fully-service digital agency Rokkan, which translates from Japanese as “the sixth sense”, and with the new generations of designers in mind, Pantone moves from being a colour provider to a software developing company. Together they release an intuitive digital work-space called PANTONE Studio which shall prove itself as a great tool for capturing Pantone colour from everyday objects around its users and enable them to test, share and implement it into design software, present it to clients and colleagues, or even post on social media.

Pantone’s SVP and General Manager, Ron Potesky explains that “Pantone has long been an invaluable tool and source of inspiration for designers across all disciplines,” and the company hopes that PANTONE Studio will make their “tools and services more accessible and easier to use than ever for modern designers. Through their deep understanding of our audience, Rokkan helped us create a beautiful interface and intuitive user experience that is more conducive to how designers work today, providing them their own private colour studio.” Do you think that together they will bring intuition to research and strategy to help brands produce highly creative material?
