This week’s #ThrowAdThursday column focuses on the work of Japanese designer Kouhei Nakama who explores ways of presenting the wholeness of the human body through magnifying tiny organisms that form it. These CGI-generated, inspiring animations reflect the idea of dynamic equilibrium which, although being an example of a system in a steady state and showing no activity, changes continuously from a micro point of view. And – whether it’s a still image of an automobile and its perfect curves or a brilliantly depiction of human movement and inner beauty – Mr Nakama is capable of expressing this idea and capturing rapidly moving, composing elements as a whole.

The author, who works as a visual art director for design studio WOW based in Tokyo, Sendai and London, expresses his visions in an early collaboration movie that shows the beauty of a Lexus car. Beautiful organic red tones of Kawaguchiko autumn burst into life and reveal the slick contours of similarly coloured Lexus LFA

Nakama’s more recent study of the human torso in motion, aptly titled Cycle, represents life as an evolution of the body through cycles and the artist describes it: “Human beings cannot be seen to be changed from outside, but many organs and cells repeat life and death in the body. In the work, I expressed the scene by magnifying and emphasizing it. The life exists by repeating life and death in its own body, and in its cycle, by changing itself little by little, it appears to change itself in a form of “spiral”, not of ‘samsara’ or ‘evolution’”.

Wow’s and Nakama’s latest study exploits the most advanced of bodies – those of Olympic athletes. Their animation also introduces a small revolution in TV broadcasting as Japan’s only public broadcaster called HNK begins to show their programmes in 8k – a resolution that is 4 times higher than Ultra HD and contains 16 times as many pixels as Full HD. Please note that the video is only available in certain countries.
