Nowadays cars are able to stand on a steep hill without the breaks on, park and even ride themselves – and are still going through an ongoing process of evolution. Whereas, despite its invention nearly 200 years ago, the bicycle has remained just a simple means of transport. As there had been more than twice as many bikes as the number of cars produced, they haven’t gotten much attention, at least in terms of additional digital supplies, as its motorized counterpart has.
The current state of affairs might come to a stylish end, with the latest invention from San-Francisco based company, Volata Cycles, who have recently introduced the world’s first high-tech bicycle with more “car-like” features like: automated lights, 96db electronic horn, GPS anti-theft system with motion detector and a unique belt drive transmission with electronic shifting. All of these are also provided with access to information about performance, weather forecast, turn-by-turn directions, your heart rate, and generate smartphone notifications.
Marco Salvioli, co-founder and CEO of Volata described the bicycle as: “the most efficient means of human transport ever invented, and in a time when the transition to sustainable transport is a priority, its everyday usage is increasing all over the world,” having explained that the real problem, until the introduction of their Italian-designed product, was that: “the bicycle industry didn’t evolve on the tech side, and did not improve the bicycle with native digital features whose goal is improving riding experience and safety.”
This all looks to change, as we enter the world of hassle-free riding with a 2.4” app-based computer integrated within the handlebar that provides us with information about all trips, tracks and automatically syncs with Volata’s smartphone app and with the rider’s Strava account.
