Since cats make up some of the most viewed content on the web, it’s no wonder that videos including the a feline fellows succeed to reach a high number of views. But this doesn’t mean that other videos can’t gain the same level of success. For instance, gaming ads are starting to have a massive impact on viewers, meaning there are lots of action videos with a great potential to  become a real hit, like the Battlefield trailer – which achieved the status of the most viewed trailer in the YouTube’s history, and gained 1 million likes just days after its release. And adding a cat to an action game video may be a recipe for similar success.

Ubisoft is aware that cats can be a key for securing popularity, so they launched a unique live action trailer for the upcoming game Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. As a result, the 90-second video named “The Red Dot” presents us with an awesome combination between a group of 3 tattooed guys, a team of soldiers and a cute white cat.Tom-Clancy-trailer-cat-after

The name of the video is not chosen randomly, since cats respond pretty well when they see a red dot moving across a surface, trying to capture it. Therefore, it’s no wonder to see the spot observes such cat following said red dot in a room where 3 scary guys are playing cards. The cat almost ruined the soldiers’ mission, but by the time the players observed the dot, it is too late, as the snipers have already found their targets…

With this video being the first piece of work from Die Hard director, John McTiernan, choosing such a game trailer might be a good stepping stone for a return to the film industry after 14 years of silence since his last film. It comes as no surprise, because the short video does bear the trademarks of the director who was described by Rotten Tomatoes as “a master craftsman notable for his almost Hitchcockian ability to create suspense and keep action moving at an exhilarating pace” — a strong build-up, funny gestures, and smart plot twists.Tom-Clancy-trailer-gangster

Regarding his absence in the movie area due to legal issues, “The Red Dot” hasn’t been widely recognized, and this might come to some as a shame, considering his work up until now: Apart from Die Hard (1988), McTiernan directed famous classic movies like Predator (1987), and The Hunt for Red October (1990). Also, there were some rumours that McTiernan, who last directed Basic in 2003, will make Red Squad movie starring Nicolas Cage – unfortunately the project is stagnating. So, at least his fans can be grateful for a short reminder of his abilities.
