For the upcoming festive season, Nespresso got nostalgic and embarked on an emotional journey through which it aims to inspire consumers to recall their childhood memories and revive the cozy spirit of Christmas.

The Lausanne-based brand decided to celebrate ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ with a series of sweet ornaments. But unlike the traditional Christmas decorations that adorn the walls of your house, the ones designed by Nespresso are supposed to please the mind, enchant the sight, and also pamper the taste buds.

The winter holidays are all about joy, fun, and happy times. Through its candy-inspired limited edition Variations Confetto collection, the coffee brand creatively boosts these magic experiences by encouraging its clients to try one of the tasty seasonal cups.

Having decided to spread fun and color this season, the company launched the “Joy in Every Cup” campaign. It joined forces with McCann Worldgroup Italy and renowned artists Craig Redman and Karl Maier, assigning them the task of creating the capsules’ Christmassy look.

Inspired by the traditional candies that used to bring a smile on our faces when we were kids, Craig & Karl embellished the brand’s coffee capsules with vivid colors and candy-striped patterns that boldly reflect both the childhood spirit and the magic times that spin around the festive season. Although the duo preferred to stick to a modern design line, various added joyful motifs are bound to awake the inner child in every customer, satisfying their appetite for creativity as well as the thirst for high-quality coffee.

By combining the past and the present, the designers achieved remarkable visual results that catch our sight through the explosion of rich colors. The modern packaging of the coffee capsules recollects the joys of childhood, which can be easily noticed thanks to the typical lollipop-like stripes embedded within the design. At just a simple glance, consumers can relive those precious long-gone moments, whilst the minimalist design adapts these feelings to current times.

Speaking about the visual project, the artists said: “[…] the design had to feel modern and relevant to now, so in our initial development we honed in on candy cane style stripes, which were prevalent in the past. In it, we saw a classic motif that can evoke nostalgia for the customer, but one that equally feels current owing to its bold and graphic form. We also loved that the stripes once applied to dome-shaped capsules gave them the appearance of candy themselves.”

Nespresso’s limited edition collection combines the distinctive aromas of traditional candies with the highest quality of Pure Arabica beans and is available in the form of three assortments: Snowball (with coconut and a touch of vanilla), Licorice (or rather a combination of spices), and Orangette (espresso flavored with orange and a hint of chocolate).

The seasonal motifs can be admired not only on the limited edition small cans but also across a series of other sweet accessories that can make the perfect gift for coffee aficionados and visual art enthusiasts alike.

In a similar design to Confetto collection, the two international artists decorated the looks of the brand’s new TOUCH Nomad dispenser, a useful tool that stores up to 15 coffee capsules, and of the Aeroccino3 coffee machine that shall transforms a simple coffee enthusiast into a real barista. While keeping the same theme, Craig & Karl designed the image of a silicone band that dresses a surprising set of 2 Lungo cups made of black porcelain with jolly stripes.
